Amanda has a brilliant idea， she thinks， when she proposes her restaurant Chicken Frannie's to the Food Wars reality show。 Here's the thing， though- her opponent will be her mom's restaurant Chicken Mimi's。 AND， her sister Mae。 a media personality and expect on de-cluttering， comes back to town。 Mae's lost her co-host job and her husband is having a career crisis of sorts so it's a good time for her to take their two kids （and nanny） from Brooklyn to Merinac，。 Kansas to help her mom。 Mimi's and Amanda has a brilliant idea， she thinks， when she proposes her restaurant Chicken Frannie's to the Food Wars reality show。 Here's the thing， though- her opponent will be her mom's restaurant Chicken Mimi's。 AND， her sister Mae。 a media personality and expect on de-cluttering， comes back to town。 Mae's lost her co-host job and her husband is having a career crisis of sorts so it's a good time for her to take their two kids （and nanny） from Brooklyn to Merinac，。 Kansas to help her mom。 Mimi's and Frannie's are very different places， run by very different women， and there's a feud that goes back years and years， so much so that when Amanda married Frankie of Frannie's she was banned from Mimi's and her mother's house。 This is really about a fractured family， mental health， and healing （along with some entertaining insight into reality TV）。 Mae and Amanda are both very real and you'll feel for both of them。 If the details of the feud， both past and present， are a little confusing for you， know that I was a bit at sea as well but all works out in the end。 This has a nice small town atmosphere and a little bite。 Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC。 A good read that will keep you guessing as to who will win the contest- no spoilers。 。。。more

I meant to rate The Chicken Sisters picture book that I read with my niece， but accidentally added this one instead。 It looks like a rollicking good time， however， and suddenly I yearn to know more about Amanda Moore， who scandalously married Frank Pogociello， and Amanda's sister， Brooklyn-based organizational guru Mae Moore。

I could not wait for this book after hearing K。J。 Dell'Antonia talk about it on the #AmWriting podcast （full disclosure， I have been a guest）， so I requested an advance copy through Eidelweiss。 And I am so glad I did because this is a great read for a tough time。 The characters have struggles。 They do things - sometimes awful things - that they never thought they had in them。 Every time I thought it could not get any worse， it got even worse （kind of like 2020）， which made the resolution all the I could not wait for this book after hearing K。J。 Dell'Antonia talk about it on the #AmWriting podcast （full disclosure， I have been a guest）， so I requested an advance copy through Eidelweiss。 And I am so glad I did because this is a great read for a tough time。 The characters have struggles。 They do things - sometimes awful things - that they never thought they had in them。 Every time I thought it could not get any worse， it got even worse （kind of like 2020）， which made the resolution all the more satisfying （as for 2020， one can hope）。 I got impatient with Amanda， and I think Barbara needed to do a lot more apologizing。 I didn't have any empathy for Mae until halfway into the book， but by the time I was done with it， I liked them all （except maybe Sabrina）。 And I had to get done with it because I couldn't not stop reading。 I could practically smell the fried chicken cooking in this story， and sense the tension of the reality TV cameras on everyone， all the time。 This is a fun， compulsively readable novel， with a lot of love and comfort food。 I highly recommend it 。。。more
